Barley is rich in potassium, protein, magnesium, vitamin B-6, iron and other nutrients. It is a powerhouse of nutrients, especially minerals and can have many health benefits. In many cultures, people drink water cooked with barley to redeem its health benefits. According to a study, barley water helps in reducing blood sugar and keeping it under control, and the antioxidants present in the drink also reduce other symptoms of diabetes and put you at lesser risk of developing diabetes.

How to consume Barley (Jau) water for diabetes?

There are two ways you can drink the water cooked with barely – one with the barley grains strained out, and one with mixing the grain with a sweetener or fruit juice.

If you consume the barley water unstrained, you need to be cautious of the calories. An average cup of barley water contains about 700 calories. Too much consumption can lead to weight gain, and increase your risk or symptoms of diabetes. However, unstrained barley water is very high in fibre, which has various health benefits.
