For the second day in a row, a Clermont County restaurant employee has been diagnosed with hepatitis A.
Clermont County Public Health said the diagnosed person works at the McDonald’s at 625 W. Plane Street in Bethel.
Another case was found Wednesday at the IHOP at 5699 Romar Drive in Milford.
Hepatitis A is one of several diseases in which a restaurant is required by law to report to its health department if the disease is discovered in one of their employees.
The health department said the McDonald’s is still open while the employee is off recovering from the illness, and the risk to patrons is extremely low.
As a precaution, Clermont County Public Health is asking anyone who has eaten at the restaurant from Dec. 16 to Dec. 29 to monitor for symptoms of the virus for up to 50 days.
Symptoms of hepatitis A include:
- Fatigue
- Low appetite
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
- Clay-colored stools
- Jaundice (yellowish color to the skin and eyes)
The Ohio Department of Health declared a statewide outbreak of hepatitis A in June.
Health departments are urging people to get vaccinated.
